It is with deep regret that we inform you that on December 15, 2023, at the age of 79, after a long illness, Professor of the Department of Computer-Aided Design Systems of the Institute of Computer Technologies and Information Security of SFedU, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Viktor Mikhailovich Kureichik, passed away. Viktor Mikhailovich Kureichik graduated from the Taganrog Radio Engineering Institute in 1967 with a degree in Computing Instruments and Devices. In 1971 he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences, and in 1978 he defended his doctoral dissertation. Viktor Mikhailovich worked at the university since January 1968, holding the positions of engineer, head of the laboratory, head of the OKB department, and head of the research institute department. From 1979 to 1999 he was the head of the department. Since 1982 - professor, from 1982 to 1987 - dean of the faculty of microelectronics and electronic engineering. In 1987, on his initiative, the Department of Computer-Aided Design Systems was created, which he headed until 1999. From 1999 to 2003, he was the vice-rector of the Taganrog State Radio Engineering University for computer science and director of the Rostov Regional Center for New Information Technologies, from 2003 to 2006 - vice-rector for science, and from 2006 to 2012 - deputy head for scientific and innovative activities of the Southern Federal Institute of Technology university. In 2012, he organized the Department of Discrete Mathematics and Optimization Methods at the Southern Federal University, which he headed until 2017. Viktor Mikhailovich made a significant contribution to the development of the Southern Federal University, to the training of highly qualified scientific and teaching personnel. Under his leadership, a scientific school in the field of evolutionary modeling and intelligent CAD has been formed and is successfully functioning, within which he has trained 65 candidates and 10 doctors of science. Kureichik V. M. is the author of more than 720 scientific and educational works. The scientific results obtained were used in more than 40 grants carried out with his direct participation. Victor Mikhailovich Kureichik is an Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, an Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation, a full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, a full member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of the Russian Federation, a member of the Academic Council of the Institute for Problems of Natural Monopolies (Moscow), a member of the Russian Association of Artificial Intelligence (RAAI) ), head of the North Caucasus branch of the RAAI, member of the expert council of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) and the Russian Science Foundation (RSF). Viktor Mikhailovich was awarded the Medal of the Order “For Services to the Fatherland” of the second degree and the honorary sign of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences “For services in the development of science and economics.”
