Abstract To ensure safe working conditions for miners in underground mining enterprises, fresh air must be supplied to the mine workings in the required amount. Forced ventilation is produced with a help of the main mine fan (MMF). Along with the work of the MMF general natural mine draft acts, and it either promotes or impedes the flow of air into the mine. At the same time, under certain conditions, the natural mine draft can reach significant values and violate supply of the required volume of fresh air to underground mining. Therefore, the natural draft must be taken into account in order to regulate the ventilation process to ensure the safety of mining operations. The purpose of the work is to determine the magnitude and direction of the natural draft, as well as the choice of the optimal mode of operation of the MMF, namely: reducing the performance of the MMF (in the case when the action of natural traction is positive), and, accordingly, increasing the performance (when the action of traction is negative). The article contains the results of an experiment carried out at one of the mines of the Verkhnekamskoye Deposit of potassium and magnesium salts. A refined method of calculating the value of the natural mine draft and its direction at a preset confidence probability is presented. In order to ensure the accuracy and reliability of further calculations, the method contains a mandatory primary statistical processing of experimental data, including a procedure for checking the measurement results for falsity, as well as an assessment of the homogeneity of the variances in the sample.
